Needle Piercing Policy

Please read this policy carefully before selecting needle as your piercing method on the intake form.

What needle piercing is

Needle piercing uses a single-use, sterile hollow needle to create a clean channel through the tissue. It is often preferred for cartilage and for clients who want the most precise placement and jewelry options. The needle and jewelry are opened in front of you and disposed of in a sharps container after the procedure.

Age guidelines

  • Ages 4 and under: needle piercing is not offered. Only the hand-push (single-use sterile instrument) method is available for this age group.
  • Ages 5 and up: needle piercing may be selected, subject to piercer discretion on the day of the appointment (see below).
  • Minors under 18: a parent or legal guardian must provide written, notarized consent for needle piercing. Minors under 16 must additionally be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian on the day of the appointment.

Piercer discretion

Needle piercing is always performed at the piercer's discretion. If on the day of the appointment the piercer determines that needle piercing is not safe — for example, if a child is unable to sit still, if the client is unwell, or if anatomy is not suitable — the piercer may:

  • Recommend the hand-push (instrument) method instead;
  • Recommend rescheduling the appointment; or
  • Decline to perform the piercing.

This is for the safety of the client and the quality of the piercing. We will never proceed if we are not confident the piercing can be done safely.

Notarized consent for minors

Florida law requires a written, notarized parental consent statement before piercing a minor. If you intend to choose needle piercing for a minor, you must download the consent form, have it signed in front of a notary, and bring the notarized original to the appointment.

Health & vaccinations

Any needle piercing involves a break in the skin and carries some risk of infection. We require that any DTaP/Tdap vaccine be administered at least 14 days before the appointment. If you have a bleeding disorder, are pregnant, take blood thinners or antibiotics, or have other relevant medical conditions, please consult your physician before booking.
